Mexico - Why it's a Great Starter Vacation

2/8/20251 min read

Visiting Mexico is always a great way to spend a vacation, but it can be an especially great way to get started with traveling if you have never gone anywhere outside of the United States. Why? Multiple reasons….

1) Travel to and from Mexico is very easy from the United States, usually a quick direct flight from many major U.S. city

2) Inexpensive – the tourism industry is well-established in the country, and the plethora of all-inclusive resorts gives pricing options to any budget

3) The all-inclusive resort option means it’s a very easy trip to schedule. One price pays for your lodging, meals, drinks, non-motorized water activities, and more!

I just returned from a short 4-night/5-day trip to a resort just south of Cancun, the Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa. I took a good friend of mine there for a quick getaway to celebrate her 40th birthday in a warmer climate than the Washington, D.C. area where we live.

This was my fourth trip to Mexico in my lifetime, the first time being when I was 19 on a family vacation to Playa del Carmen, a tourist destination about an hour south of Cancun. I have also visited Tulum, which is an extra 20 to 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, and I recently visited the island of Cozumel, where I flew directly onto the island, as opposed to taking the ferry across from Playa del Carmen.

Needless to say, whatever you want out of a tropical beach location, odds are Mexico has it! From visiting the Mayan ruins to sailing on a catamaran or learning how to dive, Mexico is a great vacation when simplicity is the name of the game.
